Introduction:
Education is the backbone of a nation. No nation can prosper without education. Mass education is the education which is meant for the illiterate people of the country. It aims at imparting the illiterate people of the country. It is mass education that makes people know what is right and what is wrong and makes them conscious of their rights and duties.

Necessity:
Education is light while ignorance is darkness. It is like a torch for a man to walk in the dark path of life. A nation can stand on a solid foundation without it. Illiteracy is a curse for a nation. It is the root of all evils. An illiterate man is similar to a blind man.
This is a burden not only for his family but also for the society. He has nothing to attain for himself, let alone to give anything to the society or the state. The birth of such a man on earth bears no meaning in the truest sense of the term.
The Importance of Education:
Education is about learning skills and knowledge. Education also means helping people to learn how to do things and support them to think about what they learn. It has no substitute. It is a must for all. Education makes a man perfect. Somehow it brings about an all-round development in his mind, in his heart and in his soul, in his values and in his attitudes of life.
The first massage of Allah to our great prophet (Sm) was about education. It was 'Ekra' which means "study". Islam says, "education rationalizes a man's mind, heart and soul. The first massage of Allah to our great prophet (Sm) says, "acquire knowledge from the cradle till death." All these statements prove the importance of learning education
Evils of Illiteracy:
Literacy is a great curse. An illiterate man is not better than a beast. He cannot different between what is right and what is wrong. Better weep with the wise than laugh with the fools. A wise enemy is better than a foolish friend. Ignorance is a great devil. We are unfortunate that many people of our country are illiterate. We are lagging behind much more the other countries of the world due to the devil of illiteracy.
Measures to remove illiteracy:
For the necessary to remove this problem, primary sectors should be uncovered and free and must be taught. For educating the illiterate masses during their long vacations should organized The teachers and the students of schools, college and universities. To educate the illiterate masses till the publication of their results should motivated the examines of public examinations.
Out government should come forward to supply the illiterate poor people with books, chat, pencils etc. free of cost. The imams of the mosques may also take part in the comparing. The chairman and the members of the union councils should make all possible help in the comparing.
Steps were taken by Government:
Our government has taken some necessary steps for setting education of solid foundation. these are:
(1) two cells called primary education and mass education has been opened
(2) primary education administration has been extended up to Upazila level
(3) Government has opened a separate ministry for primary sectors
(4) projects for developing the infrastructure of the schools has been taken up
(5) steps have been taken to appoint teachers to the vacant posts
(6) Decisions have been taken to appoint 60% teachers from among the women
(7) major changes have been brought about in the curriculum
(8) arrangements have been made to impart training to the teachers
(9) steps have been taken distribute books free of cost
(10) classes in double shifts have already been introduced.
Education is definitely important in one's life. A gift of knowledge can bring us to the top of our dreams. It leads us to the right path and gives us a chance to have a wonderful life. It makes people capable of doing new interesting things that can go a long way to improving human living conditions and standards.
Our whole life is the process of learning and gaining new useful knowledge. We should always remember that getting a good education is imperative in today's society as it is a foundation of our successful future. Our education is really worth investment. Only if you believe and work hard you can achieve anything.
